Biography for David Hockney
David Hockney was born in 1937 in Bradford, where he studied at the Bradford School of Art before going on to graduate from the Royal College of Art in 1962. He was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1991.
Hockney is generally acknowledged to be one of the most important and influential artists working today and his paintings, prints and drawings have been the subject of numerous retrospectives at almost every major international museum. Examples of his work are held in most international public collections, including MoMA, New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the National Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, the Tate Gallery, London and the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.
